Reginald Lee Clark was convicted this week of theft. The jury sentenced him Friday.

Clark was not registered to sell securities in Texas, but he did business as Clark Investment Advisors.

Clark was also president of the Groesbeck High School Band Boosters Club and received a blank check from the group to reimburse him for future expenditures on club supplies. Instead, Clark wrote the check to his business in the amount of $3,000 and spent the money on personal expenses. He later repaid the club, but did so with funds he took from a separate client.

The arrest affidavit describes severe injuries that Williams allegedly inflicted on the girl.

Police were called to the 800 block of West Slaughter Lane on Monday afternoon on report of a child not breathing. A woman reported the girl possibly had a seizure.

When police and emergency medical services workers responded, Williams was holding the girl. She was unresponsive, and despite efforts to revive her, she was taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center and pronounced dead.

According to police, Williams told one officer that he went into the girl’s room, she was not breathing and her face had turned purple. He said he had caught her eating her feces and he had lightly spanked her before he put her down for a nap. The suspect told the investigating officer that he noticed the victim’s lips were purple when he found her eating her feces, but believed it was because she was crying since she knew she was going to “get a whooping.”

During an interview with a second police officer, Williams told a slightly different story, as explained in the affidavit. He said he saw the girl had soiled her diaper. He said he took it off and put in on the floor next to the toilet. He left her there and when he went back into the bathroom, he saw that she was eating her feces. He told the officer he cleaned her up, spanked her about 10 times across her buttocks with a leather belt, then put her down for a nap. Later in the afternoon, he went back into her bedroom, noticed blood and vomit on the bed. She did not respond and was not breathing, he told police.

Police also interviewed the woman, who is Williams’ girlfriend, but not Alaney’s mother. She told police Williams is the father of her children, however. She told police she did not see any marks on the victim when she gave Alaney a bath on Sunday.

She told police that on Monday afternoon, she and Williams had taken the 2-year-old and another infant on a walk with their dog. She said Williams realized Alaney had dirtied her diaper, so he took her to the bathroom, took off her clothing, sat her on the toilet and told her she was going to be spanked. She said Williams left the bathroom, and when he went back in to check on the child, she heard Williams yell out that the girl was “eating her poop.”

The woman looked into the bathroom and saw the child with feces on her hands, arms, face and in her teeth. She left the room as Williams cleaned up the child, she told police, and heard four to six “smacks,” but did not see him hitting the child. She heard Williams yell that the girl’s lips were purple, she told police.

The affidavit states the woman went into the bathroom, was alarmed at the child’s condition, as Alaney’s breathing was labored and she was gasping. The woman said she could not hear the girl exhaling when she listened with her ear. She said she splashed water onto the girl’s face and Alaney responded. The woman said the toddler was eventually able to eat a small amount of food before being layed down for a nap. She said she periodically checked on Alaney to be sure she was breathing.

The 2-year-old had been sleeping for at most one hour, the woman told police, when Williams checked on her and found her unresponsive.

The woman told police she does not let Williams spank “her children” the same way he spanked the victim because she had seen him on at least five separate occasions hit the victim on the back and arms with a “switch,” belt or his hand and she believes this to be excessive. The woman confirmed to police that Williams told her he hit the victim with a belt on Monday afternoon.

Police said Friday the 2-year-old’s biological mother was out of state at the time of the child’s death.

An autopsy performed on the child Tuesday found a laceration on the back of the girl’s head, along with numerous bruises on her head, face, back, buttocks, chest and arms. There was extensive deep soft tissue injury and hemorrhage in the soft tissue and muscle across the entire buttocks, according to the affidavit.  The bruising appeared to be recent. She had significant blunt-force trauma, with the greatest in the head and buttock regions, according to the affidavit.

According to the doctor who performed the autopsy, the injuries were bad enough that they could have led to altered mental status, shock and possible seizures. Suffocation cannot be ruled out as a possible cause of death.

Police said five other children lived in the apartment. They were taken into custody by Child Protective Services.

Williams was arrested Friday afternoon. A $40,000 bond was set. He is charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony.

Authorities said Gabrielle Jane Nestande faces third-degree felony charges of failure to stop and render aid to the victim of the crash that happened in the 1600 block of Exposition Boulevard. 

Nestande works in Rep. Wayne Christian’s office. Nestande had been given a commendation on Thursday for her work at the Capitol. Last year, she was a volunteer in Gov. Rick Perry’s re-election effort.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office said late Friday the victim’s name is Courtney Paige Griffin, 30. She lived in the 2800 block of Enfield Road.

“She was a really good, friendly person. A great little girl,” said David Parks, who manages the property where Griffin lived.

Parks said he was most disturbed that the driver did not stop to help Griffin.

“She could have stopped – called 911 – they didn’t find her (Courtney) for a little while, see- and she might have been alive – so, that’s what bothers me,” said Parks.

Christian, an East Texas Republican, released a statement saying he and his staff were cooperating with authorities.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties involved,” the statement said.

Police were called after a neighbor who was taking out trash at 5:15 a.m. found the Griffin’s body near the shoulder of Exposition Boulevard, near the intersection with Enfield Road . Austin Police Department Victim Services officials talked to the neighbor.

It was unclear if Griffin was running or walking, though she was not dressed like she was exercising. Police said she had identification on her.

Police had a section of Exposition Boulevard cordoned off with crime scene tape as they collected evidence Friday morning that included parts of a vehicle and clothing.

Before the arrest was made, police said they were attempting to locate any witnesses and searching the area for information regarding the incident.

Police said Friday afternoon they located Nestande via a tip that came in at 9 a.m. from someone who heard news reports about the incident. The person told police about a damaged black BMW in a driveway in a home on Windsor Road. The owner of the car was already at work, as she had someone else take her to work, police said, and that damage to the car matched the crime.

Police also said the hit-and-run happened when the suspect was on her way home, but they did not release details. They will not say if alcohol was involved.

Records show Gabrielle Nestande graduated from Baylor University.

A friend of the Griffin family, who asked to remain anonymous, said Griffin has been a nanny for a number of families and worked in various animal shelters. She was not married.

KXAN looked into Nastende’s background and found that she comes from a very active political family.

Her father, Bruce Nestande, was a former Orange County Supervisor and California Assemblyman who served six months in jail and three years probation connected to a drunk-driving accident in 2006.

Bruce Nestande pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence and hit-and-run, as well as filing a fraudulent insurance claim.

Under the plea agreement, that felony insurance fraud charge would be dropped after he completed the jail time and probation.

And Gabrielle’s half-brothers – Brian and Barry Nestande – have both been involved in politics.

Barry served as Chief of Staff to former U.S. Senator John Benoit, but died of a heart attack in March of last year.

Brian is a current California Assemblyman.

Gabrielle’s sister – Francesca – is a student at the University of Southern California.

Police were called to a hit and run in the 2400 block of S. Pleasant Valley near a bus stop.

When police arrived they found a man lying on his stomach next to the bus stop on the sidewalk with blood along the sidewalk. Police said the man appeared to have a compound fracture of his right leg.

The victim was crying on the ground near the bus stop. He told police he was sitting at the bus stop when a car jumped the curb. The man tried to get out of the way but was hit.

A witness saw the silver or gray car speed off and told police it was a smaller vehicle similar to a Honda Civic.

Police drove in the direction the car was seen fleeing and found one matching the description at the Mountain Ranch Apartments, located at 2425 E. Riverside Drive.

Police questioned the driver, Ricardo Aguillon, 35, who said he fell asleep at the wheel and thought he had only hit a trashcan.

Aguillon is being held in the Travis County jail on a third degree felony charge with a $30,000 bond. He is also being detained an INS hold.

Police said 29-year-old Julian Castro broke into a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder at 1408 Poppy Seed Lane.

Castro broke the rear passenger side door and stole a bottle of Adderall from the glove box. Castro also stole a wallet, credit cards, gift cards and a Kodak camera in the victim’s purse, located in the back seat.

Police said among the items stolen was $500.00 in cash and a Bank of America check book.

Police found blood on the driver’s seat. When officers from the Austin Police Department entered it in for DNA analysis it matched Castro.

Police convicted Castro in February of 2010 for burglarizing a vehicle before the March incident on Poppy Seed Lane.

Richard Charles Rosario, 31, was arrested and charged Thursday with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Police had been investigating several robberies in and around the Austin area involving a light-skinned man around 6 feet tall and around 180 pounds. Police identified the man had an accent and was observed as being left-handed.

In five of the robberies, the man fired a black .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol at or towards victims.

In one robbery at the Shell gas station, located at 5401 Manchaca Road the robber walked into the store, fired a shot over the counter and demanded cash from the register as well as the victim’s wallet.

A second robbery in March at the South Lamar Austin Pizza , the robber used the same M.O. walking up to the register, firing a shot and demanding money. Victims said the man spoke with an accent.

In a March robbery at Gatti’s Pizza one victim was shot in the leg. Witnesses said the man came in immediately firing the shot that struck the employee. He then demanded money from the register and left.

In two more robberies on April 8th at Wan Fu restaurant located at 6801 Airport Rd. and the Deluxe Inn Motel, located at 4800 N IH 35 the robber fired shots and demanded money.

Police were able to match bullet casings found at each crime scene to the same weapon. Officials said a witness was able to remember a license plate number at one of the two additional robberies on April 10th at the Super 8 hotel on 1201 N IH 35 . During the final robbery at the Shell gas station, located at 525 Ben White Blvd . on 22nd, the victim said the robber demanded money and said if he didn’t get it he’d shoot him in the leg.

Police arrested the man a short time after the Shell robbery after police who were canvassing the area for a car fitting the description of the getaway car in the Super 8 motel was spotted.

Police searched a room registered to Rosario’s girlfriend at the Classic Inn, located 4702 Congress, and found items from the robberies as well as a .40 Caliber weapon.

Rosario is being held in the Travis County jail under a 250,000 bond. He faces 9 charges of aggravated robbery, a parole violation  and an out of county felony.
