More than 1,000 marijuana plants were seized Wednesday morning from five houses as part of a statewide raid.

Two of the houses are in Travis County , one is in Blanco County and two others are in Harris County .

Authorities would not say how they found out about the houses that contained growing materials, only that all five are owned by the same man.

His name has not yet been released and police are still looking for him.Travis County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Roger Wade  said  the street value of the marijuana was $5.9 million.

 At the home in Round Mountain off Shovel Mountain Road, about 200 plants were found.  Also found inside the home, were buckets and an irrigation system.

Although this type of crime is rare for the rural community, it is not unheard of.

“It is not unusual for people to go to isolated, not well traveled areas to do this type of activity,” explained Sgt. Bob Shelton with the Blanco Sheriff’s Office.  “It happens all the time around in surrounding counties.”

Shelton also said it would have been hard for neighbors to smell the marijuana’s pungent odor because the houses are spaced out by acres.

Authorities are planning more raids throughout the day.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon.

The Department of Public Safety Narcotics Unit is heading up the raids and the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Austin Police Department, Houston Police Department, Burnet County Sheriff’s Office and Marble Falls Police Department are all assisting.

Authorities said the marijuana would be sent to the DPS crime lab as evidence and would eventually be destroyed.
